Ontario's auditor general, Bonnie Lysyk, has delivered a report indicating that Tarion is letting down homeowners. Specifically, while trying to cut their costs, they are neglecting the duties they have been assigned in protecting homeowners. To read more, click here for the CBC article.
As most paralegals and lawyers are aware, the delays at the Landlord and Tenant Board have become increasingly lengthy. In fact, the delays have become so long that Ontario's ombudsman will launch an investigation into these delays, with the hopes of speeding up the process. Of note, the Landlord and Tenant Board attempts to process rent arrears applications and schedule hearings within 25 business days. The LTB was only able to meet this standard in 35% of cases in 2018-19.
